Domestic abuse does not always stop when a woman goes to work. Its effects can extend into the workplace, affecting concentration, confidence, attendance, financial security and overall wellbeing. Women may face difficult decisions about whether to disclose their circumstances, how to maintain their employment and where to turn for help without compromising their privacy.
At Nu Me Foundation, we believe that being employed should never mean having to face domestic abuse without support. Work can provide financial independence, routine and a sense of stability, yet women may still experience financial control, housing insecurity and other challenges that make it difficult to seek safety.
We aim to work with employers, HR professionals and organisations to encourage more understanding, compassionate and practical workplace responses to domestic abuse. Our workplace advocacy programme is being developed to help promote awareness, strengthen support practices and encourage employers to recognise the challenges employees may be facing.
Our focus includes:
Emergency Domestic Abuse Leave – Encouraging employers to consider appropriate time off for employees who need to address safety, housing, legal or family-related matters.
Emergency Financial Assistance – Promoting the development of practical financial support options for employees facing urgent difficulties.
Manager Awareness & Training – Encouraging greater understanding of domestic abuse and helping managers respond sensitively when concerns arise.
Confidential Workplace Support – Promoting safe, respectful approaches that protect employee privacy and help individuals access appropriate specialist services.
Through collaboration with employers, specialist organisations and professionals, we aim to help build workplace cultures where women feel able to seek support without fear of judgement or unnecessary barriers.
Our aim is to encourage workplaces to become part of the support network, helping women protect their wellbeing, maintain their independence and work towards a safer future.
